Membership privacy notice
How AAUS handles information submitted through member services.
Information we collect
For account access and membership review, AAUS collects your email address, name, academic degree or professional credentials, professional role, institution, country or region, professional interests, application history and review decision. A profile photograph and subscription to AAUS news are optional.
Why we use it
We use this information to verify accounts, assess eligibility under the AAUS constitution, administer membership, issue certificates, protect the service, keep an audit record, and send membership notices. Meeting and news email is sent only to people who separately choose to receive it.
Who can see it
Applications and photographs are restricted to the applicant and designated AAUS reviewers. Service providers used for hosting, authentication, storage and email process data on behalf of AAUS. AAUS does not sell member information.
Public member directory
Approved active members may separately choose to show their name, institution and country. Photograph sharing requires a second choice. Email addresses are never shown. A member can hide the profile again from the account page.
Storage and retention
Member service data is hosted with Supabase in its Northeast Asia region. AAUS keeps approved membership records while membership is active and for a reasonable administrative period afterward. Unsuccessful or withdrawn applications and associated photographs are reviewed periodically and deleted when they are no longer needed for review, audit or dispute handling.
Your choices
You may withdraw a pending application, change optional news email consent, hide a directory profile, or ask AAUS to correct or delete information where appropriate. Account deletion may require AAUS to retain a limited decision record for administrative integrity.
